Hi guys, my name is Sanam Hemrajani.
I am thrilled to be featured on the blog for Sona Jewelers. My story starts off like any other story and then suddenly takes a plot twist.
Let me begin by throwing some light on my childhood and career goals.
I was born in New York and lived there till about middle school. My family and I moved to New Jersey, where I spent my middle and high school days. After high school, I spent seven years in college in Philadelphia, where I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Of course, Physical Therapy school was challenging, but I truly loved learning and it was something I enjoyed.
However, deep down I knew I wanted to do something else; I wanted to ACT and to even more specific, I wanted to act in Bollywood.
Now comes the turning point...
I had expressed my interest to my parents and family from a young age, but my parents always emphasized education. Acting in Bollywood was never really an option as it seemed so out of reach and unattainable, but I just had a strong intuition that one day I will make my way there, and that is exactly what I am doing today.
I spent seven years studying to earn my doctorate and then worked for a full year post-graduation. Cut to today -- I officially moved to Mumbai, India, to pursue acting.
Why the change?
I know there are probably so many questions crossing your mind. Like, why didn't you just pursue acting in the first place? Did you really go to school for seven years just to switch careers? How did your family react? And the list goes on and on ... To make this short and simple, I pretty much lived a life where I knew I would have a stable income/career when I was studying in Philly.
I was in my comfort zone, and that is when I noticed I wasn't truly happy. It was time to be confident and live for me.
My passion for acting...
The fire to act and be in front of the camera was brought on since the age of 10 when I watched Ishq Vishhk and fell in love with Shahid Kapoor. I would dance and sing to every Bollywood song, know every line in every movie, walk around the house on heels pretending it's my runway, etc. The passion never faded even when I was in Physical Therapy school. I always wanted to "try my luck" but was never able to, especially because of the "log kya kahenge" mentality.
So post-graduation, my family thought that the "kiddish dream" of being in actor would surpass, and I would focus on working and following the traditional life. I worked for a full year as a Physical Therapist, and I knew I wanted to take my chances.
It was my time. I was ready.
I did not want to wake up one morning when I am older and think about what if or have any regrets. I expressed my side to my family and they were more than supportive and encouraged me to follow my dreams.
What lies ahead in the future...
Sometimes we get to a point in our lives where we stop living for ourselves. We forget that happiness is truly a real destination. I am truly the happiest I have been since I moved to Mumbai because I know I am following my passion.
As of now, I am currently living in Mumbai and pursuing acting. It has been six months since I made the move and it is my journey and I wouldn't change it for the world. I want to use my journey as a way to inspire and get inspired.
I want to take my experience to inspire people to dream big, get out of their comfort zone, just take the first step, and live their life to the fullest because at the end of the day it is your journey and your life experience. I believe anything in the world is possible.
My Power Boosters for Life...
I have a theory and I believe you need three things to achieve whatever it is.
1. You need to work your butt off.
2. You have to be a good human being (not just externally but internally).
3. You need to believe in the power of the universe.
It is never too late to start working on your dream. Anyone can do it. You can do it. I want to spread the positivity and goodness I have developed over the years to everyone around me.
My association with Sona Jewelers!
I am super excited to be working with an amazing and like-minded company like Sona Jewelers. Sona Jewelers is a staple name that every house in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania has heard of. However, apart from being a jewelry company, I was not really aware of their vision. Sona Jewelers is a company that focuses on empowering South Asian women. They aim to bring awareness to South Asian women to step out of their comfort zone, break out of the norm, change the traditional ways of thinking and much more!!! Once I learned about this, I was proud to be associated with a company with this mindset.
The company stands for everything I do, and the synchronization between the team and I was what validated this brand was one I want to be associated with. The team at Sona Jewelers made me feel welcomed and treated me with respect right from the get-go. The vibe was positive and energetic. I went into the store as a stranger, and by the end of the day, felt like a part of the family. Their vision and message is empowering, and I am glad to be associated with a company that empowers, and encourages South Asian women!"
